The Mittelland Skate route links the Bodensee with the Drei-Seen-Land (Three Lakes Country). It also links two national pioneering projects, the Thurgau Skater’s Paradise project and the Human Powered Mobility project of the National Exposition Expo.02. In between, after a detour through the Tösstal, it leads along the southern foot of the Jura.
The route is actually shaped by minor and major rivers including the Limmat, Reuss and Aare but rarely runs close to the river banks. Thus the overall topography is rather demanding. The route is marked by short ascents and descents, but with careful stage planning, even inexperienced skaters will find a perfect Mittelland experience.
The landscape is extremely diverse. After the fruit orchards of «Mostindien» the route runs through the Mittelland industrial landscape, repeatedly entering a rural ribbon with a pleasing natural feel. The rivers were the medieval transport routes. Small and larger towns and other places are evidence of the past and inviting places to visit.
